DARMASISWA RI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Darmasiswa RI program ¡s a scholarship program offered by the Indonesian government to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia, traditional music, traditional dance, and Indonesian craft. The candidate is allowed to decide the higher institutions (universities) which carry out the program.

 

This program aims to promote Indonesian culture and the language. Desiring to expand and intensify mutually beneficial cooperation to the countries which offer scholarship to Indonesian students. Moreover, it is also used as a media of cultural diplomacy.

 

Darmasiswa RI scholarship program is given to the foreign students who are willing to take a non-degree program. During the application, the students are not allowed to work, to do research, and to do practical politics activity.

  

The Darmasiswa RI Program offered :

 

I.     PROGRAM OFFERED

 

1.    Regular-Darmasiswa RI scholarship Program

 

Regular program is a one-year scholarship program offered to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Indonesian language, traditional music, traditional dance, and Indonesian craft in selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions.

 

2.   Short Course-Darmasiswa RI scholarship Program

 

Short Course program is a six-months scholarship program offered to foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia in selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions.

 

A.    Rights and Duties of the students

  1. Free of tuition fee

  2. Monthly allowance

  3. Willing to teach English language, at least 5 hours per week

  4. Participants may seek assistance from their own university in finding a house /room to rent

  5. Participants are requested to inform the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education regarding date and time of arrivals to Indonesia for pick up arrangement

  6. Signing a statement of declaration provided by the Embassy/Consulate before leaving for Indonesia

  7. Signing a contract letter provided by Ministry of National Education when arriving in Indonesia.

B.    Schedule 

  1. Bundle of candidate's application shall be submitted before the end of March 2009

  2. Selection shall be conducted on the beginning of April 2009

  3. The announcement is on the beginning of May 2009

  4. Confirmation of participants' agreement is on the beginning of June 2009

  5. The arrival of participants shall be on the beginning of September 2009

  6. Orientation program shall be conducted on the beginning of September 2009

  7. Classes will be conducted from September 2009 until July 2010

  8. For University of Indonesia, class will be conducted from August 2009 to July 2010

  9. 9.    For participants of Short Course program class will be conducted from September 2009 until February 2010

II.    VISA ARRANGEMENT

 

To study in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant is required to have a social visit visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant's country of residence. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant's passport has to be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education, for necessary arrangements in obtaining recommendations of the State Secretariat and the Directorate General of Immigration, Departement of Law and Human Rights.

 

The participants are prohibited to apply for tourist visa for study purpose.

 

III.   ACCOMODATION 

  1. The Ministry of National Education doesn't provide the accommodation for participants.

  2. The participants have to find their own accommodation assisted by the higher education institution during their study.

  3. The participants may rent a house/room in accordance with their preference and financial capacity.

IV.   COVERAGE OF SCHOLARSHIP 

  1. Free of tuition fee

  2. Allowance on living cost of Rp 1.500.000,00 (one million and five hundred thousand rupiah)

  3. Clothing allowance; a once only payment of Rp 300.000,00 (three hundred thousands rupiah).

 The participant is advised to bring enough money in US dollar for an unexpected additional expenses in Indonesia

 

V.    PROCEDURES

 

The applicant can apply online using the following address: www.darmasiswa.diknas.go.id or filling out application form available at the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General in the country of residence. In case the applicants apply online, he/she should notify the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General.

 

VI.   QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS 

  1. Application Form.

  2. Copy of academic transcript.

  3. In good health as proved by Medical Certificate.

  4. Passport size color photograph (5 pieces)

  5. Full-page copy of passport valid for at least 18 months from time of arrival in Indonesia

  6. Ability to communicate in English

VII.  ARRIVAL IN INDONESIA

 

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, in this term is Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, The Ministry of National Education does not provide the return International airfare to Indonesia.

 

VIII. HEALTH INSURANCE

 

The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) will provide limited health insurance, therefore the participants are expected to have the International insurance since the organizing committee does not provide it.
